My mom did the exact same thing!!! She was commenting on my sister’s Facebook page after my brother-in-law died, and she kept putting LOL. My sister was PISSED til she found out Mom thought she was saying “lots of love”!

  2. Sarah says:

Since when did children and parents speak the same language? Just think of the fun you’d miss if we always understood each other correctly.

  9. Okay.. that one had me rolling…. :)

  10. Ben says:

My sister did the same thing a while back when she first discovered Facebook. Anytime someone posted something sad, she would post “LOL”. She was mortified when she found out it didn’t mean “Lots of Love”

  11. Laugh while you can. Someday the shoe will be on the other foot. Texting wasn’t even on the horizon when my kids were born. What do you think will be “new” when your kids get to the age you are now?

  12. Christina says:

HAHAHA!!!! I’ve been laughing so hard that my belly hurts. Thanks. :)

  13. I laughed so hard at this one. Thats way to funny OMG

  14. omg me and my mom read this, though it was sad it was funny at the same time. i think i just lost like 10 pounds laughing it hurts. I had to take a breather and walk outside

  15. chloe singer says:

Sheesh just go to show it’s not just us old folks that are patronising… if they dont know– tell them. I am 47 BTW….

  16. Miffy says:

Christ, it DOES mean lots of love. Just because one form of the abbreviation has become more popular does not invalidate the other! Look it up! There CAN be more than one! ~bangs head off desk~

    • YourName says:

Yes… because if the known world thinks it’s “laugh out loud” and you reply “LOL” to something sad… they’re not going to think it’s “laughing out loud.” Of course. You’re so right.

  25. My friend accidentily text lol to someone saying their dog just died… And he knew what lol meant :/

  26. Chris says:

You’d think someone would’ve thought by now of putting an extra page in the phone manual that would list some of these acronyms. Moms do still read manuals right?
